Columbia Group opens its first India GCC

NAVI MUMBAI, INDIA — Columbia Group, a global ship management company, has opened its first global capability center (GCC) in India, a 20,000 sq ft facility at Mindspace Business Park in Navi Mumbai built to accommodate 220 employees and support the group’s worldwide maritime operations.

The facility was designed and delivered by workspace specialist Team One Architects.

Navi Mumbai was selected for its Grade-A commercial infrastructure, connectivity, and established talent pipeline in maritime operations and digital services. The facility is equipped with sensor-based lighting, digital room-booking systems, secure access controls, and integrated IT infrastructure.

According to a report from BW People, Columbia Ship Management’s entry into India through a purpose-built GCC follows a broader pattern of global professional services firms establishing capability centers in the country to access specialized talent at scale rather than through third-party staffing.

“People are central to how workplaces perform. This GCC was designed to inspire and motivate our teams while delivering the technology, amenities, and operational readiness required for a globally connected organisation,” said Demetris Chrysostomou, deputy chief executive officer of Columbia Group.

Columbia Group’s India footprint anchors workforce investment across maritime and digital functions

The Navi Mumbai facility will serve as an operational and digital hub supporting Columbia Group’s globally distributed activities, which include crewing, technical management, and marine services under the Columbia Ship Management brand.

Columbia Group’s choice of Mindspace Business Park places the GCC in a business district with established occupancy from logistics, financial services, and technology firms, giving the maritime group access to a cross-sector talent pool alongside the maritime-specific workforce it is primarily targeting.

India’s maritime talent depth, combined with its growing GCC infrastructure, makes the country a natural entry point for ship management companies that need both specialized domain expertise and scalable digital delivery capability.

At 220 employees, the Navi Mumbai GCC gives Columbia Group a scalable India base from which to expand its operational and digital support capacity across its global ship management operations.

“At Columbia we believe well-designed spaces play a direct role in productivity, wellbeing, and long-term engagement,” Chrysostomou added.

For outsourcing operators and enterprise buyers evaluating India as a GCC destination, Columbia Group’s Navi Mumbai entry illustrates the maritime sector’s growing adoption of the model that technology and financial services firms have used for more than a decade.

The business process outsourcing (BPO) and shared-services infrastructure that surrounds Mindspace gives incoming GCC operators a supply chain of complementary service providers, reducing the cost and complexity of standing up operational functions alongside the core capability center.
