Cybersecurity firm opens a Hyderabad AI security center
HYDERABAD, INDIA — Cybersecurity company Proofpoint has opened an artificial intelligence (AI) Security Engineering Center of Excellence in Hyderabad, with plans to hire more than 200 engineers over the next 12 to 24 months to accelerate AI security product development and expand its India engineering presence.
Proofpoint operates an existing Centre of Excellence in Pune with more than 550 extended team members, and go-to-market offices in Delhi and Bengaluru.
India operations triple as Proofpoint commits to a second engineering hub
Proofpoint’s India operations tripled over the past 12 months, with double-digit growth in new customer acquisitions and a 600% increase in seats protected over the past 18 months.
The Hyderabad centre will advance next-generation AI security technologies and integrate capabilities from the company’s acquisition of Acuvity, which covers AI governance, runtime protection, and security for AI applications, copilots, and autonomous agents.
For business process outsourcing (BPO) operators and enterprise technology buyers, Proofpoint’s Hyderabad centre adds AI security engineering to the range of India-based specialist capability relevant to vendors managing sensitive data across AI-assisted workflows.
“India is at the intersection of three major shifts: rapid AI adoption, an increasingly sophisticated threat landscape and a new era of data protection and compliance,” said Sumit Dhawan, chief executive officer of Proofpoint.
99% of Indian CISOs report data loss as enterprise AI adoption accelerates
Ninety-nine percent of Indian chief information security officers (CISOs) reported a material data loss incident in the past year, against a global average of 66%, according to Proofpoint research.
Eighty-seven percent of outsourcing and enterprise organizations globally have deployed AI tools, and 52% report a lack of full confidence in their ability to detect a compromised AI system.
The Indian market’s combination of high AI adoption rates and elevated data loss exposure positions Hyderabad as a strategic location for AI security engineering at the moment enterprise demand for that capability is accelerating.
“India represents a tremendous opportunity, not only because of its extraordinary engineering talent, but also because organisations across the country are embracing AI at remarkable speed,” said Bikramdeep Singh, India country manager at Proofpoint.
For enterprise buyers evaluating India as a technology outsourcing destination, Proofpoint’s Hyderabad centre adds AI security engineering to a GCC market where most new entrants have focused on software development and shared services.
The 99% data-loss figure among Indian chief information security officers reflects a domestic market under acute security pressure, simultaneously creating the demand that the Hyderabad centre is positioned to address from within the same talent ecosystem.
