Accenture appoints first Chief Responsible AI Officer

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — Global professional services giant Accenture has named Arnab Chakraborty as its first Chief Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer.
The move comes as companies increasingly look to harness generative AI capabilities while ensuring ethical deployment and regulatory compliance.
Chakraborty, a 20-year veteran of Accenture’s data and AI practice, will spearhead the firm’s efforts to help clients “scale and monitor AI systems in a responsible way.”
He holds 10 patents in machine learning solutions and actively contributes to AI governance discussions. He has played a pivotal role in shaping the World Economic Forum AI Governance Alliance and advises the U.S. Senate AI Insight Forum.
In a LinkedIn post, Chakraborty shared that he’s “extremely honored” to lead the team. “At Accenture, we’re committed to empowering clients to harness the full potential of GenerativeAI while prioritizing ethical considerations.”
Commitment of Accenture to responsible AI
As part of the new role, Accenture plans to expand its responsible AI advisory services, risk assessment frameworks, and AI monitoring solutions. This includes helping clients navigate evolving regulations like the EU AI Act.
The company will also introduce managed services to monitor AI systems for compliance continuously, invest in generative AI testing capabilities, and focus on AI ethics training for both its own 742,000 employees and client leadership teams.
“Clients are eager to embrace the potential of generative AI, and we are ready to help them build responsible AI into every use. We do this for ourselves, and we can use that example to help our clients find success faster,” said Julie Sweet, chair and CEO, Accenture.
“Our focus is to enable our clients to innovate AI safely and be ready to seize the opportunities that AI will bring in the decades ahead.”
Last year, Accenture appointed Lan Guan as the company’s first Chief AI Officer, recognizing her significant contributions to the field and her leadership in data and AI practices.
Accenture among tech giants launching AI workforce reskilling initiative
The newly formed AI-Enabled ICT Workforce Consortium aims to assess AI’s impact on tech jobs and identify training pathways for roles most affected.
The consortium is led by Cisco and includes Accenture, Eightfold, Google, IBM, Indeed, Intel, Microsoft, and SAP. It was catalyzed by the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council’s Talent for Growth Task Force.
In its first phase, the group will evaluate 56 information and communications technology (ICT) roles across major markets like the U.S., France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, which collectively have around 10 million ICT workers.
Accenture ranked #1 in the OA500 2024, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies. This is the second year the company clinched the index’s top spot.
