Accenture delays onboardings amid layoffs

DUBLIN, IRELAND — IT firm Accenture is delaying the start dates of some of its recent hires to recalibrate its massive workforce for a cost-conscious environment.
According to Accenture Spokesperson Rachel Frey, the start dates of their new hires, especially for recent graduates, are moved based on the needs of the firm and its clients.
Bloomberg also quoted an Accenture recruiter who apologized for the delay and said, “The decision was made to create the best possible new joiner experience.”
Another insider source alleged that the tech giant is offering additional signing bonuses to some people with pushed-back start dates.
However, this practice is also costing Accenture its new recruits. Several employees moved on to the new job instead of waiting to start in the company because their start was delayed twice and thrice.
Just last month, Accenture announced plans to eliminate 19,000 jobs or 2.5% of its workforce, over the next 18 months.
Commenting on this decision, Accenture CEO Julie Sweet said the company is taking steps to lower their FY2024 costs and beyond “while continuing to invest in our business and our people.”
