Accenture, Fincantieri launch joint venture for AI-driven shipbuilding

TRIESTE and MILAN, ITALY — Professional services powerhouse Accenture and global shipbuilding provider Fincantieri have joined forces to launch Fincantieri Ingenium.
The new company will focus on advancing technology in cruise ships, defense vessels, and port logistics. Fincantieri NexTech, a subsidiary of Fincantieri Group, will hold a 70% stake in the venture, while Accenture owns the remaining 30%.
A strategic move in maritime innovation
“We are excited about this joint venture with Fincantieri, which marks a significant step forward in maritime innovation and is a tangible example of collaboration between two organizations committed to transforming the market and creating new value,” said Teodoro Lio, MU Lead for ICEG and CEO of Accenture Italy.
“With Fincantieri Ingenium, we are combining our respective strengths to shape new operating models that will transform maritime operations through innovative technologies.”
The newly formed entity, which stems from a memorandum of understanding signed in July 2024, combines deep naval engineering expertise with cutting-edge digital capabilities to reshape maritime operations using AI, IoT, cybersecurity, and digital platforms.
Fincantieri Ingenium’s first flagship initiative is Navis Sapiens, a digital ecosystem designed for next-generation ships. The platform will optimize ship operations and lifecycle management through AI-powered applications, a secure digital foundation, and an open marketplace for high-value maritime services. The first vessel equipped with Navis Sapiens is set to enter service by the end of 2025.
The joint venture also aims to enhance sea-to-shore connectivity through real-time data exchange across ships, ports, and shipyards, helping to modernize and streamline Italy’s maritime infrastructure.
Anchored in global strength
Fincantieri, headquartered in Italy, is one of the world’s largest shipbuilders with operations in 18 countries, over 22,000 employees, and a history spanning more than two centuries. The group is active in cruise, naval, offshore energy, and marine systems, and plays a growing role in cybersecurity and digital technologies.
“Thanks to the synergy with Accenture, we will develop cutting-edge solutions that will make our ships and infrastructures increasingly connected, efficient and sustainable, consolidating Fincantieri’s role as a global leader in the sector,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri.
Accenture, based in Ireland, operates in over 120 countries with a global workforce of approximately 801,000. After two consecutive years in the top spot, the global professional services company ranked #2 in OA500 2025, an objective index of the world’s 500 top outsourcing companies.
With sustainability as a guiding principle, Fincantieri Ingenium aims to reduce environmental impact through data-driven energy optimization, supporting shipowners in cutting fuel use and emissions. The joint venture is pending standard regulatory approvals.
