Accenture expands net-zero infrastructure with Italian acquisition

MILAN, ITALY — Outsourcing giant Accenture has announced its acquisition of IQT Group, an Italian engineering services provider.
This acquisition marks another step in Accenture’s expansion of its infrastructure and capital projects portfolio. While financial terms remain undisclosed, the acquisition awaits standard regulatory approvals and antitrust clearances.
Strategic integration
IQT Group, headquartered in Rovigo, Italy, brings a workforce of over 450 consultants and engineers to Accenture’s Industry X division.
The company specializes in designing and supervising net-zero infrastructure projects, particularly in electricity generation and transmission. Their expertise extends to helping utility providers modernize integrated electricity and water networks, while also supporting energy efficiency initiatives for industrial and commercial sites.
“The proposed acquisition of IQT Group confirms our intention to further strengthen our position in Italy by enhancing our engineering expertise and the services related to the implementation of strategic net-zero infrastructure projects,” said Teodoro Lio, CEO of Accenture Italy and Market Unit Lead of Italy, Central Europe and Greece.
Impact on sustainable infrastructure
The merger comes at a crucial time as Italy advances its clean energy transition under the EU’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan. IQT Group has been actively involved in this transformation, providing comprehensive services from feasibility studies to environmental planning and technical specifications.
“Our expertise in engineering services for electricity, water and telecommunications infrastructure and industrial and commercial sites combined with Accenture’s global reach and digital capabilities, will allow us to expand our services and offer even greater value to our clients,” said Andrea Cavecchia, IQT Group’s CEO.
This latest acquisition follows Accenture’s expansion strategy, which included acquiring U.S.-based Anser Advisory, Canadian Comtech, and Spanish BOSLAN.
With a global workforce of over 700,000 professionals, Accenture continues to strengthen its position as a leader in professional services. For the second year running, Accenture ranked #1 in OA500 2024, an objective index of the world’s 500 top outsourcing companies.
