Acquia opens Costa Rica center to boost tech jobs

SAN JOSÉ, COSTA RICA — Acquia, a digital experience software provider, has launched a new Center of Excellence (CoE) in Costa Rica, reinforcing its presence in Latin America and driving job creation in the country’s tech sector.
The new hub, based in WeWork Cariari near San José, will support Acquia’s growing global operations by focusing on functions including sales, software development, customer support, human resources, and cloud operations.
The company currently employs 70 people in Costa Rica and plans to expand further in the coming months.
“With Acquia’s expansion into Costa Rica, we are broadening access to global talent and strengthening our ability to deliver cutting-edge digital experience solutions for our clients,” said Tawny Barnett, Country Manager of Acquia Costa Rica.
Costa Rica chosen for talent and stability
Founded in 2007, Acquia is known for its open digital experience platform (DXP), which helps organizations deliver personalized, scalable, and secure digital experiences. The platform is built on Drupal, an open-source content management system, and integrates customer data, content, and marketing tools to increase engagement and drive revenue.
“The decision to establish operations in Costa Rica is based on the country’s political stability, investment-friendly environment, and high-quality education system, which produces professionals with excellent English proficiency,” Barnett explained.
“Acquia’s arrival in Costa Rica is a testament to the confidence global tech companies place in our country, largely due to our proven track record as a strategic investment destination,” said Marianela Urgellés Batalla, Managing Director of CINDE.
“In 2024 alone, CINDE-supported companies accounted for 14 new investments and 33 reinvestments in the services sector—the leading sector for new projects.”
CINDE is Costa Rica’s investment advisor and a key driver of business development and talent initiatives.
