Adecco secures $96Mn UK council deal for hundreds of temp jobs

WOLVERHAMPTON, UNITED KINGDOM — Global staffing giant Adecco has secured a £75 million (US$95.9 million) contract with the City of Wolverhampton Council to supply temporary staff over the next three years, the BBC reported.
The agreement comes amid ongoing challenges in hiring and retaining talent across core service areas.
According to a council report, the authority has struggled to fill roles in adult and children’s social care, finance, procurement, and IT—making flexible staffing solutions critical to sustaining operations.
“The use of agency workers can help the council respond to peaks and troughs in service requirements,” the report stated.
Adecco replaced the council’s in-house recruitment agency, YOO Recruit, which was dissolved after 11 years.
Contract may reach $128Mn
The initial contract runs through 2028, but it includes an option to extend by another two years, potentially bringing the total value to £100 million ($127.9 million).
In the past five years, Wolverhampton Council has spent over £82.5 million ($105.6 million) on agency staffing, including £40 million ($51.2 million) in just the past two years.
The new partnership solidifies Adecco’s role as a key supplier in the UK’s public sector labor market. It also reflects a broader trend of local governments relying on external agencies to meet growing demand for specialized skills in an increasingly tight labor market.
