AI cannot beat the human mind, says Infosys’ Narayan Murthy
MUMBAI, INDIA — Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy believes that artificial intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT will not replace the human mind in the tech industry, despite its impressive capabilities.
In an interview with CNBC, Murthy said that while ChatGPT is an excellent addition to knowledge, the human mind differentiates one employee’s work from another.
Citing school work as an example, Murthy stated, “If there is a competition between you and me, you will use the ChatGPT output as your base, and then you will add your own differentiation, your own smartness, your own tweaking…And that’s when the teachers will be much more impressed with you than with me.”
“The lazy guys will get C. Only smart people will get A… Therefore, I am not so much worried about ChatGPT.”
Murthy’s comments come as AI and other automated technologies become increasingly prevalent across various industries.
The Infosys co-founder added that ChatGPT should only be used as an assistant in producing better quality outputs and not as a human replacement.
“At the end of the day, I am a great believer in the theory that the human mind is the most powerful imagination machine. There is nothing that can beat the human mind.”
Infosys is the world’s third most profitable IT services brand, valued at US$13 billion. It landed on the #8 spot in the Time Doctor OA500 list, proving its capability as a top outsourcing partner to client companies.
