AI to boost PH GDP by 12% in 2030

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to help increase the Philippine economy by 12% to $92 billion in 2030.
According to Dr. Erika Fille Legara, Chairman of Aboitiz Data Science, Asian Institute Management, this growth will mainly be driven by the promotion of accessible services that would make people’s lives easier, sooner or later.
During a forum about AI and ChatGPT, Legara emphasized that AI is now a strategic capability that would improve the country’s economic activity as it moves toward a more technologically advanced society.
“Indeed, companies are [now] competent in global analytics,” she added.
However, AI may also have a negative impact that stems from inequality gaps, privacy, and security; bias and discrimination; and job replacement.
Legara noted that Filipinos need to understand that while AI will not replace humans, humans using AI will replace humans not using AI in the Philippine job market.
Outsource Accelerator (OA) Founder and CEO Derek Gallimore agreed that companies need to embrace AI and use them to migrate their workforce to high-value work.
