IOpex CEO: AI, automation to change India’s outsourcing industry

NEW DELHI, INDIA — IOpex Technologies CEO Shiva Ramani believes that India’s outsourcing sector is poised for a significant transformation as artificial intelligence (AI) and automation are reshaping industries globally.
In an interview with senior financial journalist KT Jagannathan, Ramani shared his vision of how these technological advancements are set to redefine the traditional business models within the outsourcing field in India.
Traditionally reliant on a people-centric model, the outsourcing industry in India is witnessing a paradigm shift towards outcome-based approaches driven by AI and automation.
“The number of people is no longer going to be the business construct. We have AI and human eyes to make sure that the automation goes through well. We now look at the outcome and not necessarily the number of people involved,” Ramani stated.
As the outsourcing landscape evolves, the CEO predicts a significant change in the next five to seven years, with a potential reduction in headcount due to the integration of AI and co-pilots in the workflow.
“Much of the writing (60%) is done by co-pilots,” he mentioned, emphasizing the need for businesses to embrace AI to avoid becoming obsolete.
Ramani’s vision extends beyond the immediate future, foreseeing a time when knowledge will become commoditized and the focus will shift towards higher-order contributions.
“Knowledge is absolutely commoditized now… In the next 15 to 20 years, there are going to be fewer factories. About 80% will be commoditized knowledge,” he projected.
The conversation with Ramani underscores the inevitable impact of AI and automation on the India-based outsourcing field, heralding a new era of innovation and efficiency.
As businesses adapt to these changes, the role of human capital is set to evolve, emphasizing the importance of leveraging technology to drive value-added services and outcomes.
IOpex Technologies is a service solution provider with a significant presence in India. With a strong emphasis on writing AI functions and automation software for various business operations, Ramani said that the company is at the forefront of this transformative journey.
“Bulk of our focus is in the opex areas… For all these functions, we write AI functions and automation softwares.”
The firm, which generates nearly 75% of its revenue from the U.S. and 15–20% from Europe, saw a 40% year-on-year growth since 2017.
