Akbayan seeks benefits, subsidies for returning BPO employees

The Akbayan Party-List is urging the government to provide benefits and subsidies to employees in the Information Technology And Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry who will be compelled to go back to their offices.
In a statement released by the party-list’s second nominee Raymond John Naguit, IT-BPM workers who will be required to return to the office should be given subsidized commutes and free COVID-19 testing.
Naguit stated that “if BPO workers are required to go back to onsite work, they should be given stronger benefits and subsidies.”
The political party is among the various groups and personalities who have shown their support for the continuation of the work-from-home (WFH) arrangements for employees.
Akbyan noted that the “government needs the time to prepare the work environment to make it safer, and also to shield workers from high fuel prices.”
Naguit added that the industry should be required to subsidize the personal electricity and internet bills of remote workers.
“Under Republic Act No. 11165 or the Telecommuting Act, employees have the right to reimbursement (of) any expenses incurred while WFH,” the party’s nominee concluded.
