AMN Healthcare sells Smart Square software to symplr for $75Mn

TEXAS, UNITED STATES — AMN Healthcare Services, one of the largest healthcare staffing companies in the United States, has sold its Smart Square scheduling and staff planning software to symplr, a provider of enterprise healthcare operations software, in a deal valued at $75 million.
The transaction includes $65 million paid at closing and a $10 million note due at the end of 2026.
The agreement also establishes a commercial partnership between the two firms, allowing customers to access both symplr’s operational technology and AMN’s healthcare workforce solutions.
What the deal means for AMN Healthcare and symplr
Smart Square, recognized as a 2025 Best in KLAS solution for nurse and staff scheduling, will now be integrated into the symplr Operations Platform. This cloud-based SaaS tool uses AI-driven scheduling, predictive analytics, real-time staffing adjustments, open-shift management, and nurse competency integration to optimize workforce management for hospitals and health systems.

AMN Healthcare, meanwhile, will focus on advancing its WorkWise platform, launched in 2024. WorkWise features workforce advisory, planning AI, staffing, and analytics solutions.
