1 in 3 ASEAN SMEs not confident in hybrid work security

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) lack confidence in securing hybrid work environments against intensifying cyberthreats, according to Palo Alto Networks‘ 2023 State of Cybersecurity in ASEAN Report.
The cybersecurity leader’s study reveals one in three SMEs in the region are not confident in monitoring potential data breaches as operations shift between office and remote sites.
Top concerns include password attacks (63%), malware (56%), and account hijacking (53%).
“SMEs hold valuable data coveted by cybercriminals. It’s imperative for them to bolster defenses,” cautions Steven Scheurmann, Palo Alto Networks’ Vice President for ASEAN.
While adopting cloud security remains a key priority, SMEs cite limited budgets and in-house expertise as barriers to procuring more robust solutions for hybrid work.
Scheurmann advises implementing core measures like network traffic visibility, zero-trust network access, and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled threat prediction.
