Australia embraces good outsourcing relations with PH

CEBU, PHILIPPINES — Australian businesses forged a thriving Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) partnership with the Philippines, with notable success stories and potential for further growth for companies within both countries.
During a panel discussion at the 17th Contact Islands Conference, industry leaders highlighted their positive experiences with offshore collaboration, underscoring the advantages and opportunities of the relationship between Aussie and Filipino firms.
Wilson Group General Manager Narelle Cirillo from Wilson Group shared that she successfully convinced her company to outsource services to the Philippines in 2015. With the growing BPO industry, what started with just five has now grown to 140 staff, with plans to double that number within the next few years.
Lachlan Maxwell, Senior VP of Business Development – APAC of Diversify, also pointed out the cyclical nature of Australian demand for outsourcing services, where some companies might initially return operations to Australia but are likely to continue offshore collaborations due to cost savings and improved service quality.
Cultural affinity and understanding of Australian customers’ preferences emerged as crucial elements in the success of this partnership. Direct communication and efficient solutions were also critical factors in building trust and rapport with Australian clients.
Derek Gallimore, Founder and CEO of outsourcing marketplace Outsource Accelerator, also discussed how Australia’s small business sector, predominantly SMEs, faces significant staff shortages despite offering high salaries.
As the country seeks solutions, a cultural and nearshore connection with the Philippines emerges as an attractive option. The Philippines’ proximity, being in the same time zone, has made it an appealing destination for offshoring. However, some Australians advocate for local employment instead of outsourcing.
Gallimore added that he had witnessed the growing interest in offshore solutions from Australian businesses. The quality of Australian leads seeking outsourcing options matches global trends across various sectors.
The panelists also agreed that the offshore explosion is reshaping Australia’s workforce augmentation approach. The strong partnership with the Philippines effectively solves the country’s staffing challenges while providing mutual benefits for both nations.
As Australian companies continue to embrace outsourcing opportunities, the relationship with the Philippines is expected to strengthen further, driving success and growth in the future.
