Austria to hire 200K Filipino workers in coming years

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Austrian government looks forward to opening over 200,000 jobs for Filipino workers in the coming years.
In a statement, the Austrian Delegation on the Hiring of Filipino Workers for Austria said they would need around 60,000 to 75,000 healthcare workers from the Philippines and an additional 200,000 job openings across all industries.
“Our partnership with the Philippine government through the DMW will create a win-win situation, providing employment opportunities for skilled Filipino workers while contributing to the growth of Austria’s economy,” said Austrian Ambassador to the Philippines Johann Brieger.
However, Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Susan Ople said a memorandum of agreement (MoU) must be signed with the Austrian government “to set the tone and define the parameters” of this partnership.
Data from the DMW showed there are around 5,824 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Austria, with around 1,220 working in the hospitality and food service sector and 749 in the health and social work service.
