Bangladesh’s BPO sector to outpace garment industry by 2041

DHAKA, BANGLADESH — Bangladesh’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector is forecasted to surpass the garment industry, becoming the country’s primary foreign export revenue source by 2041.
This was declared by Mustafa Jabbar, the Post and Telecommunication Minister, at the conclusion of a two-day BPO conference led by the Bangladesh Association of Contact Center and Outsourcing (BACCO).
The conference, chaired by ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, addressed the BPO sector’s growth potential and the strategies to overcome existing barriers.
Emphasizing the need for a digitally savvy workforce, Jabbar urged tech organizations to provide the required training to nurture digital skills in their teams.
Jabbar commended the strides made under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Digital Bangladesh initiative, pointing out that 98% of Bangladesh now enjoys 4G network access.
To facilitate the sector’s expansion, BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder announced forthcoming measures to simplify the BPO licensing process. The Ministry of Commerce also pledged to support policy initiatives to boost the IT industry.
While the readymade garment industry currently contributes to 83% of Bangladesh’s total export earnings, the rising BPO sector signifies a promising driver for the nation’s continued economic progress.
