Bangladeshi freelancers struggle to find high-paying outsourced jobs
A growing number of Bangladeshi freelancers are finding it difficult to find highly paid jobs in the global market.
In a Financial Express report, the freelancers admit that most of them can hardly match the technical and language skills for outsourced jobs and could only earn US$600-700 a month on average.
Meanwhile, the ones equipped with better skills and training have the scope to secure an income of up to $4,000 a month.
Apart from skills deficiency, the Bangladeshi freelancers said that the inflexible payment gateway in the country makes them ‘less competitive’ in the global online markets. Popular payment methods, like PayPal, have yet to start their local operations in Bangladesh.
The Internet is another problem as Ookla reported that Bangladesh is at 135th place (out of 137 countries) in mobile internet speed.
Freelancers also say weak English language and communication skills are a major barrier to getting more regular and rewarding jobs.
Bangladesh Freelancer Development Society (BFDS) Chairman Tanjiba Rahman said that “There is a branding challenge for Bangladeshi freelancers as we work for cheap payment.”
The chairman stated that this problem causes them to be paid “extremely low compared to those from some other countries.”
