Belize BPO mixer highlights strategy for digital services growth

BELMOPAN, BELIZE — Belize’s business process outsourcing (BPO) sector is emerging as a major engine for jobs and digital exports, government officials and industry leaders said at a BPO Business Mixer on February 5, 2026.
According to a press release from the Government of Belize Press Office, the Economic Development Council (EDC), together with the Belize BPO Association and the Belize Chamber of Commerce, hosted an event to unite stakeholders in addressing challenges to ensure the industry’s sustainable growth.
Belize BPO sector drives employment, economic impact
Chief Executive Officer Narda Garcia highlighted the sector’s growing impact on employment.
“This is a significant contribution to the overall 20,000 jobs that serve young professionals, experienced supervisors and managers, IT specialists, quality analysts, and support teams across Belize, most of whom are youth and women,” the press release said.
She noted that 17 BPOs operating under Belize’s Designated Process Area Program (DPA) provide more than 9,000 jobs of these jobs.
The government noted that BPO wages offer consistent income, health benefits, and career advancement opportunities for many households.
On the national scale, the sector contributes meaningfully to the economy, with total exports from deliverable digital services reaching US$450 million, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) figures cited in the press release.
Investments in upskilling and digital policy
Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment, Policy, and Compliance Unit, shared updates on the Global Digital Services Project, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank.
The initiative focuses on Belize’s Global Digital Services Investment Policy, emphasizing the Orange Economy, and aims to upskill entry-level workers and BPO professionals to meet global demand for higher-value digital services.
Panel discussions addressed additional priorities, including modernizing the Labor Act, compliance under the DPA Program, online submission of social security claims, and a collaborative approach to cybersecurity and cybercrime.
Informational booths provided guidance on labor compliance, temporary work permits, work visa procedures, and benefit claim submissions.
Strategic partnerships fuel future outsourcing growth
The BPO mixer showed that government and industry partners can boost Belize’s outsourcing industry through their strategic collaboration. Belize can increase its presence in international digital services because of its specific investments in workforce training and digital system development.
The sector creates important job opportunities for Belize, which also helps the economy to grow while demonstrating a successful method of creating employment that other countries in the region can use to build their business process outsourcing operations.
