BIR pushes for digitalized tax collection

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) of the Philippines is working with a private IT company to study the bureau’s ICT capability in structure, workforce, and infrastructure and recommend strategies and plans for improving their core ICT systems and data centers.
BIR Commissioner Lilia Guillermo said that this partnership allows them to build on the progress already made in the department and strengthen the digitization of tax administration.
Guillermo explained that digitizing tax collection will make it more efficient, significantly expand the tax base, increase the collection percentage paid after audits, and reduce corruption and tax evasion.
The BIR added that by using this digital switch, the agency could keep developing IT systems simple while also saving them in line with the demands of tax administration.
To achieve operational efficiencies, cost optimization, and service quality for the Computing Infrastructure Strategy, the BIR will implement the best practices and build active governance policies and processes with a “cloud first” approach.
An Enterprise Architecture Roadmap will be created based on the findings of the gap analysis that will be conducted. It will also outline the numerous efforts to be carried out to accelerate BIR’s digital transformation.
