Bogota ranks among Latin America’s top GBS hubs

BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA — Bogotá has been ranked among Latin America’s top three global business services (GBS) hubs in a study by Invest in Bogotá and Michael Page, placing the Colombian capital alongside São Paulo and Mexico City as the region’s leading centers for shared services, business process outsourcing (BPO), and high-value knowledge functions.

70% of Colombia’s GBS operations run from Bogotá as multifunction models dominate

Bogotá hosts 70% of Colombia’s GBS operations, with 63% of established centers having operated in the country for more than five years, indicating that international companies have moved from market-entry to long-term commitment.

The study found that 75% of organizations now operate under multifunctional GBS models that integrate finance, human resources, procurement, data analytics, technology, and outsourcing across shared delivery structures.

Knowledge-based services foreign direct investment in Colombia grew more than 60% between 2019 and 2024, supported by an annual graduate pipeline of more than 80,000 professionals in sector-relevant fields.

“Today, Bogotá hosts 70% of Colombia’s GBS operations and already ranks among the region’s top three hubs. These results reflect the confidence international companies place in our city’s talent and in its ability to lead strategic operations with global reach,” said Isis Durán, executive director of Invest in Bogotá.

90% of companies view Colombia as strategic as AI investment accelerates

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) tops technology investment priorities for 65% of GBS organizations operating in Colombia.

Ninety percent of companies in the study described Colombia as strategically important to their operations, a figure the Invest in Bogotá and Michael Page report attributed to the country’s talent depth and operational track record rather than cost advantages alone.

Bogotá’s positioning as a GBS hub spanning multiple functional domains reflects a transition from cost-arbitrage outsourcing toward integrated delivery operations that require both technical and management talent at scale.

“GBS operations have evolved from support centers into engines of organizational transformation. In this context, Bogotá has the conditions needed to continue attracting high-value operations serving Latin America,” said Daniel Camacho, director of Michael Page Colombia.

For enterprise buyers evaluating Latin America as a nearshore delivery region, Bogotá’s GBS profile represents an attractive alternative to established English-speaking offshore markets: a Spanish-English bilingual talent base, time-zone alignment with North American clients, and an operating cost structure competitive with more mature GBS locations in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia.
