BPO boom opens jobs in Tiruchi, India
The pandemic-induced Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) boom in India, as well as the implementation of remote work, had opened numerous jobs in Tier-2 cities like Tiruchi, which are considered outside of major economic hubs.
In an interview with local newspaper The Hindu, Omega Healthcare Chief Human Resource Officer P.V. Guruvayurappan said that “the pandemic has blurred the lines of work regions, with remote work becoming normal,” allowing more job opportunities to open in other cities in the country.
Sidd Ahmed, founder of business consulting firm V-Dart, said that “after the initial attrition, the pandemic had buoyed the IT sector by opening up places like Tiruchi to new employers.”
Ahmed added that they are looking to create at least 2,500 jobs in Tiruchi in the coming years.
VDart is also looking at ways to cater to students from places like Thanjavur and Pudukottai who come to Tiruchi for higher education.
According to a 2021 GlobalData report, enterprise spending on BPO services in India is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.8% to reach $8.8 billion by 2025, driven by a push for outsourcing knowledge-based and vertical-specific processes.
