MANILA, PHILIPPINES — As cyberattacks escalate across the Philippines, business process outsourcing (BPO) firms and other digitally reliant organizations are urged to prioritize rapid recovery and systemic resilience to protect their critical operations.

According to a company press release shared with Adobo Magazine following the CyberSecPhil Conference 2026, Synology—a global leader in network-attached storage and data management solutions—warned that standard backup methods are failing to protect against modern cyber threats. Today’s sophisticated risks increasingly include ransomware attacks, phishing schemes, and AI-powered fraud attempts.

Surging cyber attacks and data breaches in 2025

According to a separate cybersecurity report, cyber attacks in the Philippines have experienced considerable growth because the third quarter of 2025 showed a 49% increase in data breach incidents when compared to the previous quarter.

It demonstrated the urgent need for robust data protection during the same period when 76 breach incidents had taken place, and 4 million accounts had been compromised as a consequence.

The World Economic Forum’s Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2026 report identified AI-based fraud as an increasing international threat as generative AI tools enable criminals to create more believable and easier-to-execute scams.

“With digital operations now central to day-to-day business, the ability to recover data and systems quickly is becoming critical during cyber incidents,” said Claire Huang, Synology’s Country Manager for the Philippines.

Industries that depend on digital systems, which include BPOs, retail, logistics, healthcare, and financial services, face revenue loss and reputational damage from any system outages.

Moving beyond traditional backups for cyber resilience

“Effective data protection is no longer just about keeping copies of data. It must ensure that data remains secure and immutable, and that systems can be restored quickly even if primary environments are compromised,” Huang emphasized.

Organizations continue to experience security gaps as their protection strategies require improvement through better access controls and safer backup systems that need to be disconnected from active production networks.

The cyber criminals use ransomware attacks to target these firms, as their current security measures remain unprotected.

The increasing difficulty of managing IT environments has led companies to investigate centralized management solutions together with structured data protection systems, which enable them to protect vital operations while making their recovery process more efficient.

The ActiveProtect solution from Synology provides security protection through centralized monitoring capabilities while safeguarding system integrity and enabling quick data recovery during cyber attacks.

“As cyber threats evolve, resilience is now a core part of security strategy,” Huang said

“Organizations need coordinated data protection and tested recovery processes to reduce disruption and protect critical operations,” Huang added.

As the Philippine BPO sector and other digitally intensive industries keep growing, organizations now need to establish cyber resilience as their main method for protecting their business operations.

The organization needs to establish security measures through direct testing of their recovery solutions, as this approach will prove effectiveness and safeguard against potential ransomware and AI-based cyber threats.

The adoption of future-ready protection strategies by organizations will enable them to achieve a competitive advantage through their resilience programs, which enable business operations to continue during digital attacks.
