BPO/ITES hiring dropped 13% in India

MUMBAI, INDIA — The hiring demand in India’s BPO/ITES (Business Process Outsourcing/IT Enabled Services) sector dipped by 13% year-on-year in April, according to the latest foundit Insights Tracker (fIT).
foundit, an online job platform, attributed this drop to companies who continue to watch their spending on talent acquisition.
Other sectors like BFSI (-4%), healthcare, biotechnology & life science (-16%), import/export (-19%), agro-based industries (-20%), and IT-hardware/software (-22%) also witnessed a significant decline in their hiring patterns compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, the retail, travel, and tourism industries exhibited positive growth on a y-o-y basis.
Cybersecurity professionals are also in high demand due to digital transformation and increased cyber-attacks and data breaches.
India’s overall hiring demand among start-ups increased by 19% y-o-y in April. foundit also revealed that the country housed over 80,000 startups last year, creating over 250,000 job opportunities.
