BPO Partylist vows to create measures against cybercrimes
The Bangon Philippine Outsourcing Inc. (BPO) Partylist pledged to formulate and enact appropriate laws against hacking, phishing, and other types of cybercrime in the country.
This plan was released following the recent phishing scam faced by a group of teachers in their payroll accounts under the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).
BPO Partylist President and first nominee Mike Cubos said there should be uniform or standardized security protocols in the country’s banking and financial sector to prevent such incidents from happening again.
He added that there must also be an institutionalized national awareness drive for hacking and phishing to protect consumers against these kinds of cyber threats.
Cubos suggested that new accounts should undergo a quick anti-hacking or phishing seminar so that they would be aware of the risks and the steps that they should take.
Moreover, the BPO Partylist President emphasized the importance of creating a separate but attached agency called Cyber Security Agency that would have its budget and regulatory powers to look into cybercrime issues in the Philippines.
