BPOs drive Cape Town’s office market

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA — International Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) providers wanting to set up call center operations are driving the demand for office space in Cape Town.
According to a report by Business Live, the capital city has been the preferred locality for multinational BPO operators for more than 25 years.
The Cape Town Central City Improvement District’s (CCID) State of Cape Town Central City Report also revealed that there is “sustained confidence in the development and business investment potential of the Central City.”
CCID Board Chairman Rob Kane added that the “Cape Town inner city once again proved itself resilient in the face of economic hardship and uncertainty caused by the pandemic.”
Office space in the CBD available for rent increased by 14,936 square meters (sq.m.) due to a 14,306 sq.m. increase in A-grade office space.
Nevertheless, the Cape Town CBD offered the city’s most competitively priced premium office space at R195 (US$11.19) per sq.m.
Meanwhile, throughout 2022, the BPO providers who entered Cape Town’s Central Business District (CBD) created over 5,000 international jobs in the city.
