PARIS FRANCE — A recent report from the Capgemini Research Institute reveals that generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) has been discussed in the boardrooms of 96% of organizations surveyed, highlighting its burgeoning interest across industries.

Generative AI can learn and apply data patterns while undertaking human-like creative tasks. It is used in various applications, from creating tailored content in different styles to performing customer service roles.

The technology’s potential to accelerate growth, enhance operations, and unlock new opportunities fuels business interest. Furthermore, executives predict around seven to nine per cent of improvement in their operations from Gen AI adoption within the next three years.

Telecom companies are also embracing the promise of generative AI. The Capgemini Research Institute found that 97% of surveyed telecom firms are exploring its use.

Applications under exploration include call center analytics and IT services. For instance, telecom giant Orange tests generative AI for transcribing calls and suggesting follow-up actions.

Telecom companies are also looking at how generative AI can restore old media, with 30% conducting related pilots.

While many acknowledge the benefits of generative AI, a small percentage foresee significant disruption in their industry due to the technology. Philip Jansen, CEO of telecom company BT, warned that AI could lead to job losses, with the company planning to cut around 10,000 jobs by 2030.

Despite such concerns, the report suggests that most executives and consumers believe that generative AI will enhance their efficiency at work, freeing them from routine tasks and allowing for a more strategic focus.
