Over 5,000 call center jobs open in the Philippines

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — In a recent report by the Philippines’ Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), over 5,000 job vacancies for call center agents have been identified, highlighting the sector’s significant demand in the country.
Philippines’ booming call center industry
The data — collected from March 24 to 30 — positions call center agents at the top of the job vacancy list, with a total of 5,702 openings registered with the BLE.
Following closely behind in the job market are professional nurses, with 3,138 vacancies, and production workers, with 2,361 job openings.
Additionally, the service industry shows a strong demand for service crew members, with 1,007 vacancies, and customer service assistants, with 952 openings, rounding out the top five in-demand jobs.
Philippines’ BPO industry growth and job opportunities
This information, sourced from the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Employment Information System (PEIS) and the government-run job matching portal, PhilJobNet, provides a comprehensive overview of the current employment landscape across the country.
The surge in demand for call center agents underscores the Philippines’ role as a global leader in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.
The country’s proficiency in English and cultural compatibility with Western clients make it an attractive destination for outsourcing customer service and technical support roles.
Industry body Information Technology & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) expects the sector to generate an additional 1.1 million jobs within six years, aiming to expand the sector’s workforce to 2.5 million by 2028.
Additionally, it targets to achieve $59 billion in revenue, marking a significant growth milestone for the industry.
Challenges in matching job seekers with vacancies
Despite the high demand for workers in various sectors, the Philippine Statistics Authority estimates that the number of unemployed individuals in February 2024 was 1.80 million.
This discrepancy highlights the ongoing challenge of matching job seekers with available positions and underscores the importance of targeted training and education programs to equip the workforce with the skills needed for in-demand jobs.
BLE said that interested applicants could visit their nearest PESO for pre-employment counseling, skills training options, and job matching services. PESOs connect qualified candidates with available positions posted by registered employers.
BLE is a staff bureau under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that has interrelated functions to promote and facilitate employment within the Filipino workforce.
