CCI Global launches mega call center in Kenya
TATU CITY, KENYA — CCI Global, Africa‘s top business process outsourcing (BPO) firm, has opened a massive new call center in Kenya’s Tatu City.
CCI moved 800 employees to the facility in December 2023. The $50 million, five-story facility represents CCI’s largest investment on the continent and will create over 5,000 new jobs.
Africa’s leading outsourcer invests $50Mn in Tatu City facility
The Tatu City call center was commissioned by Kenyan President William Ruto. At the launch, CCI announced plans for a second building in Tatu City that will double its Kenyan workforce to 10,000 employees.
“This launch represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide top-tier BPO services while contributing to Kenya’s socio-economic development,” said Rishi Jatania, CEO of CCI Kenya. “We believe in the potential of this region and are excited to set the gold standard for BPO operations in Africa.”
CCI Global has over 15,000 staff across 17 contact centers in 6 African nations. The company serves 80 clients, mainly large English-speaking firms outsourcing customer service roles to lower-cost African markets.
The company also recently ranked #262 in the OA500 2024, the first objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.
Kenya’s largest call center is powered by renewable energy
The Tatu City facility, developed by GREA, will run almost entirely on renewable energy through solar panels, natural air cooling, and self-shading walls that minimize emissions. It has received green building certifications for its sustainable design.
“Eneo at Tatu Central represents the pinnacle of BPO facilities, combining state-of-the-art amenities with green design principles and community involvement, to create a sustainable, dynamic, and thriving community hub,” said Greg Pearson, GREA’s CEO.
Empowering women construction workers
In a pioneering move, CCI involved an all-female Kenyan construction team called Buildher on the project. Thirty women worked on building the call center, setting a new benchmark for gender equality in African construction.
The Buildher program trains disadvantaged women and provides them stable employment, aiming to promote prosperity and change attitudes in the male-dominated industry.
Tatu City’s economic engine
“CCI’s Tatu City Call [Center] makes a significant contribution to the development of [Kenya’s] BPO industry, which is growing rapidly in our cities, and will create a million jobs for Kenyans alone in the next few years,” said Stephen Jennings, CEO of Tatu City developer Rendeavour.
“With the right management, technology, international access and enabling ecosystem, Kenyan BPO workers excel on a global scale.”
Part of CCI’s $150M Kenyan investment since 2016, the Tatu City facility affirms the company’s belief in the country’s thriving outsourcing industry. CCI CEO Martin Roe called Kenya “a standout choice” for BPO delivery.
Over 75 companies, including several BPO firms, have already set up or are developing facilities in Tatu City. Its Special Economic Zone status offers businesses a 10% corporate tax rate for 10 years and 15% for the next 10 years, compared to the standard 30% rate.
