China service outsourcing accelerates in early 2024

BEIJING, CHINA — China‘s service outsourcing industry witnessed a remarkable surge in the first four months of 2024, according to the country’s Ministry of Commerce.
The total value of services outsourcing contracts inked by Chinese firms soared to a staggering 781.43 billion yuan (US$110 billion), reflecting a 14.4% year-on-year increase.
The executed contract value also witnessed a substantial uptick, reaching 520.51 billion yuan (US$73 billion), a 12.9% year-on-year rise.
Notably, the offshore service outsourcing contracts accounted for 419.04 billion yuan, an 8.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Offshore contracts drive expansion
The surge in offshore service outsourcing contracts has been a significant contributor to the industry’s overall expansion.
This trend highlights China’s increasing prominence as a global outsourcing hub, attracting businesses from around the world seeking cost-effective and efficient services.
Talent influx fuels growth
The burgeoning service outsourcing sector has also catalyzed employment opportunities, with approximately 301,000 new hires joining the industry during the January-April period.
Remarkably, 84.7% of these new recruits hold a university degree or higher, underscoring the industry’s demand for skilled professionals.
The country recently launched a three-year plan to develop a digital workforce in the face of intensifying technological competition with the West.
As the Chinese government continues to prioritize the development of the service outsourcing sector, industry experts anticipate sustained growth and further opportunities for both domestic and international companies to leverage China’s vast talent pool and competitive advantages.
