Companies eye more contingent workers: Ceridian survey

MINNESOTA, UNITED STATES — Around 65% of companies want to hire more contingent workers in the next two years, said human capital management (HCM) firm Ceridian.
According to the Ceridian 2023 Executive Survey, 80% of companies have already employed contingent workers, underscoring their importance in modern business.
Contingent workers are people hired on a temporary or fixed-term contract basis to provide specific services for a specific project or period. Technically, since they are not employees, they do not receive the same rights and benefits as permanent employees.
Despite the increasing intention to hire such workers, 70% of executives struggle to integrate contingent workers into their workforce. Meanwhile, 44% find hiring contingent workers with specialized skills hard.
“The efforts towards workforce transformation that organizations have already made are remarkable, but more opportunities abound. Our latest Executive Survey is a rallying cry for business leaders to invest today in people strategies and systems to be positioned for future growth and resiliency,” said Ceridian Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Susan Tohyama.
Ceridian’s executive survey also revealed that 81% of firms use artificial intelligence for repetitive tasks. At the same time, 74% of surveyed leaders expect internal mobility to increase in their organizations in the next two years.
The survey involved 2,020 senior business leaders from seven countries: Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
