45% of companies plan to outsource cybersecurity next year, says Kaspersky
MOSCOW, RUSSIA — Around 45% of companies intend to outsource cybersecurity functions in the next 12 to 18 months to bolster protections against escalating attacks, said cybersecurity company Kaspersky.
In a new research, Kaspersky revealed that 77% of companies surveyed experienced a cyber incident in the past two years, mostly serious attacks. Inadequate security tools and staff shortages ranked among the top reasons cited for the breaches.
These persistent gaps are now driving more outsourcing to reinforce defenses. Managed security services, external specialists, automation software, and other third-party cybersecurity services are among the leading options under consideration.
The research added that the industries most likely to pursue outsourcing include critical infrastructure and energy companies. Over half of respondents also plan to implement automated security software to relieve strained IT teams.
According to Kaspersky VP of Corporate Products Ivan Vassunov, “Turning to external experts, — whether it’s outsourcing, to manage the whole cybersecurity system, or adopting expert-level services to assist the IT Security department — is the optimal solution for many.”
He also advised companies to turn to external experts and scripts to offset talent and technology deficiencies being exploited in attacks.
Kaspersky’s latest findings were created with the collaboration of Arlington Research. Over 1,260 IT & IT security engineers across 19 countries were surveyed to better understand the human impact on cybersecurity within companies.
