Xerox, Connecticut Children’s use AI boosting pediatric care efficiency

CONNECTICUT, UNITED STATES — A team up with Connecticut Children’s and Xerox pushes forward to deploy AI across its pediatric care operations, aiming to slash emergency room wait times, predict heart risks in young cancer patients, and optimize hospital staffing.
The expanded partnership will equip nurses with real-time AI recommendations for supplies and medications while using predictive analytics to improve long-term outcomes for high-risk cases.
AI co-pilots clinical decision-making for pediatric care
The initiative marks Xerox’s deepening push into healthcare AI, with its algorithms now powering a lot of aspects that is part of a broader shift toward data-driven pediatric medicine.
As Xerox’s AI is integrated, the platform will assist emergency nurses by analyzing historical cases to predict supply and medication needs for incoming patients.
For pediatric oncology, the AI will flag patients at risk of cardiotoxicity, a potentially fatal side effect of chemotherapy, allowing earlier intervention. It is vital for an early detection of this condition to typically improve outcomes by enabling treatment adjustments.
“Xerox is proud to collaborate with Connecticut Children’s to bring AI-powered solutions to life in ways that transform healthcare,” said the Chief Executive Officer of Xerox, Steve Bandrowczak in a statement.
This move enables access to critical resources for patients, families, and clinicians to be delivered faster.
Smarter systems optimizing hospital operations
Xerox’s predictive analytics refines patient admission forecasts, helping the hospital allocate staff and beds more efficiently.
The partnership builds on Connecticut Children’s prior technological investments, including its 2017 integration of InstaMed with the hospital’s Epic EHR.
“By adopting these innovative tools thoughtfully and strategically, Connecticut Children’s is reimagining pediatric healthcare, ensuring that the children and families of Connecticut and the region have access to a health system that is embracing technological advancements,” Bob Duncan, Chief Operating Officer of Connecticut Children’s said.
Xerox’s AI will streamline pediatric hospital operations in three key areas:
- Emergency department efficiency
- Cardiotoxicity risk prediction
- Advanced census forecasting
Xerox also becomes the exclusive provider of print technology for Connecticut Children’s new clinical tower that is set to open in late 2025.
