CRC Advisors buys Aberdeenshire accountancy BBKS & Co

ABERDEENSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM — CRC Advisory, a Scottish accountancy and business advisory practice based in Kirkwall, Orkney, has acquired BBKS & Co, an Aberdeenshire accountancy firm founded approximately 40 years ago, the company announced.
The acquisition gives CRC Advisory a physical presence in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, where BBKS & Co’s existing team will remain, and is expected to create additional employment in both Orkney and Aberdeenshire. The business will trade as “CRC incorporating BBKS & Co” for 12 months before transitioning to the full CRC brand.
CRC Advisory expands into Aberdeenshire with BBKS deal
Based in Orkney, CRC Advisory has served clients on the Scottish Mainland for years, and the BBKS acquisition marks the firm’s first purchase of another accountancy practice in its nearly eight years of operation.
According to a report from Yahoo Finance, a physical presence in Aberdeenshire enables CRC Advisory to serve existing Mainland clients more directly while opening the firm to new opportunities in one of Scotland’s growing business centers.
“Bringing BBKS & Co into the CRC fold has been an incredibly exciting step for us this year. This marks a new chapter for CRC, strengthening our team and expanding the expertise we can offer our clients,” said Calvin Cooper, Founder at CRC Advisory.
BBKS founder retires after 40 years in accountancy
Louise Birse founded BBKS & Co in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, and has operated the practice for approximately four decades, with the sale to CRC Advisory facilitating her retirement. The acquisition is expected to expand the workforce in both Orkney and Aberdeenshire, with BBKS & Co’s Banchory team retaining their positions under the new ownership structure.
“Selling the business is the obvious choice at this time of my life. My husband has been retired for about nine years, I have family and friends around me, I have loads of hobbies – it is time I started to enjoy them all,” said Louise Birse, Founder at BBKS & Co.
CRC Advisory’s Aberdeenshire expansion reflects a pattern of regional consolidation in the Scottish accounting sector, where smaller independent practices are increasingly acquired by growing firms seeking geographic diversification and expanded client service capacity.
For the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, the deal reflects ongoing consolidation of specialist accounting practices into broader service platforms, as boutique professional services firms become attractive acquisition targets for regional consolidators.
With founder-led accounting practices across the United Kingdom facing succession challenges as founders retire, deals like CRC Advisory’s acquisition of BBKS & Co offer a model for preserving local expertise and client continuity under new ownership.
