Cyberattack caused Capita’s IT outage

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — Outsourcing giant Capita announced that a cyberattack on their systems caused the three-day IT outage of some of their services.
In a statement, Capita said that the attack primarily impacted their access to internal Microsoft Office 365 applications.
“This caused disruption to some services provided to individual clients, though the majority of our client services remained in operation,” the firm added.
For now, Capita said that they have already restored colleague access to Microsoft Office 365 while making good progress in restoring remaining client services in a secure and controlled manner.
The outage that started last Friday, March 31, triggered concern within the United Kingdom (UK), given that Capita is one of the government’s most important suppliers.
The company has about £6.5 billion (US$8.07 billion) worth of contracts with the UK’s public sector and employs more than 50,000 British citizens.
