Danao City aims to become Philippines’ next IT-BPM hub

CEBU, PHILIPPINES — Danao City, located in northern Cebu, is positioning itself as the next major player in the Information Technology-Business Process Management (IT-BPM) sector.
With a population of 165,000 and a strategic location supplying 40% of Metro Cebu’s workforce, the city is investing in talent development, infrastructure upgrades, and digital connectivity to attract outsourcing firms.
Scholarships fuel talent development
To build a skilled workforce, Danao City has partnered with the Call Center Academy (CCA) and local institutions to offer free IT-BPM training programs. Supported by TESDA’s Tulong Trabaho Scholarship Program, these courses prepare graduates through mock interviews and phone simulations.
Over 350 scholars have completed the program since its inception, with leading firms like Accenture already hiring from this talent pool.
Infrastructure upgrades and connectivity
The city is retrofitting its existing buildings to house business process outsourcing (BPO) firms while ensuring all 42 barangays have internet access through providers like PLDT and Globe.
Plans are also underway for a 6,000-square-meter mixed-use IT park within three to five years, accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and Board of Investments (BOI). A long-term vision includes developing a 30-hectare Techno Business Park aimed at attracting IT-BPM firms, tech startups, and light industrial investments.
IT/BPM summit: A platform for growth
In collaboration with the Cebu IT-BPM Organization (CIB.O), Danao City will host an IT/BPM Summit in the first quarter of 2025.
This event aims to showcase the city’s readiness for investment and position it as a major outsourcing hub in Cebu.
A sustainable economic vision
Recognized by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) as a sustainable urban city, Danao is diversifying its economy beyond IT-BPM. Recent developments include partnerships with Double Dragon Properties Corp. and Toyota’s satellite service center, which will create hundreds of jobs.
By combining talent development, infrastructure improvements, and strategic partnerships, Danao City is poised to become one of Cebu’s fastest-growing economic centers. With its focus on innovation and sustainability, it is well on its way to becoming Cebu’s next IT-BPM hub.
