Demand for temp workers to go up by 30-40% as India’s festival season approaches

The demand for temporary workers in India is expected to increase by 30% to 40% as the country prepares to celebrate its festival season after two years.
This led staffing companies to tap every possible talent pool amid intense competition, soaring attrition, and a manpower supply crunch.
Aditya Narayan Mishra, CEO of staffing firm CIEL HR, said companies are sourcing candidates through unconventional methods such as engaging with social media influencers, using email and social media campaigns, tapping ex-defense personnel and differently-abled people, and drawing from government and skilling databases.
Some reportedly use bus conductors, autorickshaw drivers, and security guards for referrals.
“These innovative practices help us tap into new talent pools and bring people into formal sector employment,” Mishra added.
Companies are also luring these candidates with up to 30% higher compensation, incentives, bonuses, and upskilling and reskilling opportunities. Some are provided accommodation; the best performers are also promised longer-term contracts with clients.
“These are the biggest draws for people coming mainly from informal, unorganized sectors where minimum wages, social security, and other benefits are not provided,” said Lohit Bhatia, President of workforce management of Quess.
ManpowerGroup India Senior Director Alok Kumar added that “getting skilled manpower has always been a challenge. However, we also keep evolving ourselves in order to serve our clients.”
The festival season is expected to drive up the need for workers to fill 500,000 to 600,000 temporary roles across the country.
