DePuy Synthes to open Bengaluru GCC, hire 500

BENGALURU, INDIA — DePuy Synthes, the orthopedic division of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, will open a global capability center (GCC) in Bengaluru and hire 500 professionals across software engineering, data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) functions, expanding the medical device maker’s offshore technology footprint in India.

The Bengaluru facility will serve as a global hub for product innovation and technology development supporting DePuy Synthes’ worldwide operations.

Bengaluru center to drive global product and technology functions

According to reports from Indian Pharma Post and BioSpectrum India, the new center will house teams spanning software development, cloud engineering, data analytics, and research and development, drawing on Bengaluru’s established base of technology and engineering talent.

The center represents one of the largest GCC commitments from a multinational medical device company in India, consolidating innovation and technology delivery under a single offshore hub within the Johnson & Johnson MedTech network.

India’s depth of engineering graduates and the city’s mature infrastructure for large-scale technology operations make it a natural location for concentrating global capability work.

The company said hiring will target professionals with experience at the intersection of software engineering and healthcare applications, aligning with the center’s focus on technology supporting clinical and operational outcomes.

“India is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world for orthopaedic care, and this investment deepens our long-term commitment to patients, surgeons, and colleagues here,” said Namal Nawana, Worldwide President at DePuy Synthes.

India’s growing appeal for medical device GCC investment

India’s GCC sector has recorded sustained growth in offshore capability center openings, with Bengaluru consistently attracting new commitments from multinational technology and life sciences firms.

The country’s GCC sector added a record 510,000 jobs in the most recent reporting period, reflecting the scale of offshore investment now concentrated in India’s technology corridor.

DePuy Synthes said the center would prioritize roles combining deep engineering expertise with healthcare domain knowledge, supporting the company’s digital innovation agenda in orthopedic care.

The Bengaluru opening reflects a broader shift in enterprise outsourcing strategy, with owned GCC models increasingly complementing traditional third-party business process outsourcing (BPO) relationships.

For buyers evaluating delivery locations, India’s medtech sector expansion adds competitive pressure to an engineering talent market already absorbing record GCC hiring volumes. The DePuy Synthes commitment signals that healthcare-linked technology functions are becoming as central to India’s offshore mix as traditional information technology (IT) services.
