DICT brings broadband to masses

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is bringing broadband access to rural areas, particularly in the province of Antique.
“Broadband ng Masa” is a government initiative that aims to give the masses access to the internet.
Through this project, free Wi-Fi spots will be set up on different campuses of the University of Antique and in many other parts of the province, including areas where the locals live.
Some of the campuses are Caluya, Hamtic, Libertad, Sibalom, and Tario-Lim Memorial.
DICT Secretary Ivan Uy said there could be as many as “150 free Wi-Fi sites” in the province during the “initial stages,” but more should be expected as the effort works to connect more barangays over the next few years.
