MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) to encourage cooperation, development, enhancement, and integration in the ICT industry.
Witnessed by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., the MOC will compel the two agencies to work together in the next five years for the formulation and facilitation of joint ICT projects, exchanging professionals, delegations, policy information, technologies, and regulations in the sector.
The DICT and MIC are also expected to collaborate to improve broadband infrastructure, 5G network, cybersecurity, Digital Transformation, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and cultural relationships through broadcasting content.
Moreover, the MOC will strengthen the cooperation between the two countries for the smooth transition to Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting and for using the Emergency Warning Broadcasting System (EWBS) in the Philippines.
According to DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, “The Philippine Government and the Government of Japan have a long history of collaboration, and the signed MOC will only strengthen our cooperative efforts.”
“As a developing country, we are sure to gain valuable insights and support from Japan, especially in the field of ICT,” Uy added.
