DICT to remove ‘red tape’ in several services

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will be streamlining its registration, accreditation, and monitoring processes for towers, satellites, and delivery companies to remove “red tape” in their operations.
DICT Secretary Emmanuel Caintic said that the changes were made through the DICT Department Circular (DC) No. 001 to abide by President Rodrigo Duterte’s instructions in removing “red tape and unnecessary steps, costs, and procedures in governmental dealings.”
He added that the adjustments will also conform to Republic Act No. 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act.
With this development, Caintic announced that the Postal Regulation Division (PRD) is now restructured into the ICT Infrastructure and Services Enabling Division (IISED) and will be under the “direct control and supervision” of the Office of the Undersecretary for Digital Philippines (OUDP).
The DICT official said that simplifying the entry process for companies in the private express and messenger delivery services (PEMDES) space could help open “thousands of jobs” to Filipinos, provide services to online sellers, and improve the sector.
According to DICT’s estimates, the Philippine logistic market could reach more than P1 trillion (US$19.14 billion) by 2024.
