DOST announces R&D focus in 2021

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña announced that this year, the agency will be focusing its research and development (R&D) on agriculture, health, and energy sectors “because of their potential economic impact, support for inclusive development, and potential contribution of new knowledge which could have universal use.”
de la Peña also noted that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics technologies for infrastructure and disaster management applications, as well as space technology applications in public services will be prioritized.
This year, the agency also wants to give priority to start-ups, including technology business incubation. More collaborative projects between industry and academe will be supported.
