DoST launches advanced manufacturing facility

To raise the competitiveness of the Philippine manufacturing sector, the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) launched the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen) in Taguig City.
AMCen is a state-of-the-art prototyping laboratory that aims to be the technological hub and research center for additive manufacturing in the Philippines, housing cutting-edge 3D printing technologies capable of printing plastics, clays and cement, highly-resolved polymers and ceramics, and metals.
The new facility will empower the country to develop sophisticated products and technologies in aerospace, defense, health and medical services, biotechnology, automotive, and electronics and semiconductors.
“AMCEN cuts the production time especially in the prototyping stage which means more savings and we can now develop more complex designs in a shorter, more efficient way as additive manufacturing is better than the conventional subtractive manufacturing,” said Fortunato de la Peña, DOST secretary.
