DTI to push science, tech, innovation-based initiatives under current admin

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) vowed to push for science, technology, and innovation-based industrial initiatives under the Marcos administration to help the Philippines grow globally competitive and innovative industries.
During a Senate public hearing of the Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Entrepreneurship, DTI Undersecretary Rafaelita Aldaba explained that the three sectors will be the key toward an inclusive and sustainable industrial transformation and development for the country.
Prioritizing science, technology, and innovation, she added, will “put our industries in a better position to enable us to face competition from exports as well as within the domestic market and paving the way for the country’s industrial transformation.”
The DTI official also disclosed that they are looking to implement its “Dynamic Industry Ecosystem” that primarily involves embracing Industry 4.0, upsizing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and start-ups, among others.
“We are focusing our efforts toward upgrading our MSMEs. We want more micros to graduate into becoming small, the small to medium and the medium to become large,” she said.
The DTI will also work on linking manufacturing with agriculture and services, promoting regional development through innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as upskilling and reskilling the Filipino workforce.
“As we adopt all these new technologies, we need to ensure that our workforce would be ready especially in terms of the competencies and skills that would be demanded by industries in the future,” Aldaba concluded.
