E-commerce giant Alibaba launches outsourcing platform Daraz Flex

Multinational e-commerce company Alibaba recently launched an outsourcing platform called Daraz Flex in Southeast Asia.
According to tech news outlet Tech Planet, the outsourcing platform is under Daraz, a Pakistan-based e-commerce platform acquired by Alibaba in 2018.
Daraz Flex allows enrolled users to earn money by completing various tasks, including working as a last-mile delivery person or as a warehouse assistant in a fulfillment center.
Reports said that there had been a recent uptick in the popularity of using gig workers or contractors as a means to reduce operational expenses, especially among Chinese tech firms.
Other internet giants, including Tencent, Baidu, Pinduoduo, and ByteDance, launched their own outsourcing platforms to find large numbers of gig workers.
China’s gig economy is also rising due to employees saving operations costs and workers wanting greater flexibility in their work schedules.
Based on data released by Alibaba’s research arm AliResearch, there will be an estimated 400 million freelancers working in the gig economy in China by 2036.
