Epic, Press Ganey to automate nursing quality reporting

WISCONSIN, UNITED STATES — To reduce the administrative burden on healthcare staff, electronic health records (EHR) vendor Epic will now be integrated with Press Ganey’s National Datana of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI).
Streamlining data collection for key nursing indicators
The integration will enable Press Ganey’s NDNQI to pull indicators and outcomes from Epic’s EHR system directly.
This automation will initially focus on five crucial nursing-sensitive indicators: catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line bloodstream infections, inpatient falls, outpatient falls, and pressure injuries.
The NDNQI collects and analyzes nursing data from over 2,000 healthcare organizations, enabling benchmarking and quality improvement initiatives.
Enhancing patient care through digital transformation
This partnership represents a significant milestone in the healthcare industry’s digital transformation journey.
By leveraging cutting-edge technology, Epic and Press Ganey aim to alleviate administrative burdens, enabling healthcare professionals to focus on delivering exceptional patient care.
“Our expanded collaboration with Epic is a pivotal step towards using real-time data to improve care quality and patient experience,” said Darren Dworkin, President and COO of Press Ganey.
“Removing manual reporting reduces workloads for nursing leaders, accelerating insights and actions.”
Emily Barey, Vice President for Nursing at Epic, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The new integration technologies will allow nurse leaders to devote more time to acting on data, ultimately enhancing care quality.”
“This collaboration intends not only to reduce the amount of required abstracting and formatting but also ensure that documentation supports the essential work of nurses in keeping patients safe,” she said, per Fierce Healthcare.
OhioHealth launches $12Mn Epic EHR
OhioHealth Van Wert Hospital recently joined the Epic bandwagon. This month, the health system launched CareConnect, an Epic-powered EHR worth $12 million.
This new system will allow patients to schedule appointments, consult with a provider virtually, and pay their medical bills all in one place.
“This will improve patient outcomes by enabling quick access to comprehensive data for accurate diagnoses and timely interventions,” said Joy Bischoff, president of OhioHealth Van Wert Hospital.
Meanwhile, physicians also benefit from CareConnect through better documentation and communication with their patients.
The MyChart app provides timelines and screening reminders that allow patients to create their own schedules rather than placing them through a phone call.
