EU to give P47M humanitarian aid to PH

The European Union (EU) will allocate P 47 million (US$927,000) in humanitarian aid funding to help the Philippines’ COVID-19 response programs, especially in far-flung areas in Mindanao.
EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič said that the surge in COVID-19 cases “threatens the lives and livelihoods” of Filipinos, particularly “those living in remote areas like Mindanao” where medical care is limited.
Lenarčič added that this funding “will ensure vulnerable and marginalized people receive vital health support to go through this difficult time.”
The funding will support various organizations — including Action Against Hunger, CARE International, and Oxfam International — in assisting the vaccine rollout in the Mindanao region.
EU’s monetary aid will also prioritize the improvement of hygiene practices while ensuring that marginalized people in 19 municipalities across Mindanao will have a better understanding of the importance of vaccination.
