Everise to establish ‘microsites’, invests in new tech

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Amidst the ongoing concerns surrounding the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on people and jobs, some firms in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector have been gradually integrating new technologies to streamline their services and maintain their workforce.
Everise, a BPO firm based in the United States, had already made significant investments in its workflow system and technology, including data centers and cloud systems, before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company quickly transitioned 90% of its workforce to a remote work setup.
“Adapting to new technology has to be a way of life. This is in every industry. But more so in our industry,” said Everise CEO Sudhir Agarwal.
Everise is now looking to expand its operations starting in India and Malaysia through what it calls “microsites.”
Microsites will serve as operation bases that accommodate up to 300 seats or half the usual number. These will be located outside the main cities where most employees live. This will enable the firm to remotely recruit and onboard staff and conduct periodic retraining of employees on-site.
Everise thought about the concept of microsites upon realizing that 8 out of 10 of its Manila employees live outside the city.
An outsourcing expert recently urged companies to embrace AI tools, adding that the development these bring are incentives for the industry to upskill.
“AI could completely change the rules of the game in terms of what it means to work, implement and generate things. If that happens, it happens universally across the world, across the entire workforce. So it won’t just impact outsourcing, this will be a global universal issue,” said Outsource Accelerator (OA) Founder and CEO Derek Gallimore in an interview with One News’ Agenda.
