Fewer Americans rethink job changes despite demand – Robert Half survey
CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Fewer American workers plan to switch jobs in the coming months amidst more job openings and talent shortages, according to a new survey by talent solutions firm Robert Half.
Only 36% say they intend to change roles in the next six months, down from 49% in July 2022, suggesting greater job satisfaction.
Top reasons cited for the “Big Stay” include increased flexibility (44% of respondents), feeling fulfilled (42%), and adequate compensation (37%).
“The churn in the labor market of the past few years has normalized,” said Dawn Fay, operational president of Robert Half. “We’re now seeing workers pause and take stock of their careers, as well as employers taking a more strategic approach to hiring.”
The research also shows ongoing strong demand for skilled talent, with 57% of companies looking to add staff in the first half of 2024, while 39% aim to replace departing employees. Driving hiring plans are company growth (66%) and staff turnover (52%).
Meanwhile, top motivators for job seekers include higher salary (55%), better benefits (36%), and more remote work options (32%).
The online survey of over 1,275 professionals across sectors like finance, technology and marketing was conducted from October 27 to November 17, 2023.
