Fiji outsourcing industry booming with BPO jobs surge: Deputy PM

SUVA, FIJI — Fiji is experiencing a significant surge in employment opportunities within the knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and information technology outsourcing (ITO) sectors, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Biman Prasad.
Speaking at the expansion of RCL Services Pte Ltd’s office in Valelevu, Nasinu, Prasad highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to fostering the growth of the outsourcing industry.
“The Fiji Government has consistently demonstrated its commitment to fostering the growth of the outsourcing industry, which now supports a significant workforce of approximately 8000 to 10,000 individuals,” Prasad stated.
He noted a notable rise in employment opportunities within the KPO and Information Technology Outsourcing sectors, with a growing demand for skilled professionals such as accountants, business analysts, and credit intelligence specialists.
Positioning Fiji as outsourcing hub of the Pacific
Prasad emphasized the vital role the outsourcing industry plays in Fiji’s economic diversification strategies.
“The outsourcing industry plays a vital role in the Fiji Government’s economic diversification strategies, serving as a sustainable pillar of economic growth and development,” he said.
The sector leverages several key advantages with the ultimate goal of positioning Fiji as the outsourcing hub in the Pacific region.
The Fijian government believes that the outsourcing industry can convince young people to remain in the country and showcase their skills and career aspirations in this rapidly expanding sector.
“By doing so, we can not only retain our brightest minds but also contribute to the nation’s economic growth and development,” Prasad remarked.
Government investment and support
To support this growth, the government has invested $2.5 million towards the outsourcing industry in the current financial year.
This investment includes funding infrastructure, introducing new skills accreditation courses, and prioritizing resilient ICT infrastructure critical for the industry’s growth.
“These efforts collectively demonstrate our strong support for the industry and our determination to create a conducive environment for its continued growth and success,” Prasad concluded.
The surge in work opportunities within Fiji’s BPO sector is expected to continue, bolstering the nation’s economy and providing sustainable employment for its workforce.
Expansion of RCL Services
RCL Services Pte Ltd, a contact center specializing in debt recovery solutions and insurance claims recovery services, is one of the companies contributing to this growth.
The expansion of their office in Valelevu is a testament to the increasing demand for outsourcing services in Fiji.
